So what exactly is "The Eternal Bachelor?" Well, I suppose it's a lot of different things to different people. It's a space for other men who, like me, find themselves rushing headlong into a classic mid-life crisis meltdown and want someplace to vent and read about others dealing with the same issues. It's a place for women to read and get some kind of insight, however useless it might be, into the male psyche.
A little about myself, I guess, before we plough ahead into these unknown and mysterious waters known as eternal bachelorhood. I'm a 38 year old man living in downtown Denver in a high rise apartment overlooking the 16th Street Mall. "Cool" you might say, and yes, it's pretty cool. It would cooler if I had a job and some money to enjoy my "playboy bachelorhood" lifestyle.
You see, I think that's why I started this blog in the first place. I'm smack dab in the middle of what you might call a "life change." I used to be a journalist, I suppose I still am at heart. I've worked in newspapers, radio and television as a producer, talent, and editor covering stories like the Jon Benet Ramsey investigation, the Oklahoma City bombings, the Columbine shootings and, of course, 9/11. I left organized journalism (kind of like leaving organized religion) in 2003 and switched my focus to public relations.
I have worked with major companies such as Shell Oil, Krogers, Chase Bank and others. I started my own business with two partners two years ago. In July of 2008, we shut it down, leaving me jobless, moneyless and questioning the direction my life should take next. Along the way, I have screwed up my share of relationships for too many reasons to count.
So that's me in a nutshell. As for the purpose of this blog? Let's just say it pretty much will deal with all things bachelor-y (see, I can make up words, too). From politics to religion to sports and, of course relationships. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not an expert on relationships, and I don't play one on tv, and I didn't sleep at Comfort Inn, or whatever hotel chain that is. But I DO know something about being a bachelor.
And, if I remember correctly, the old saying goes, "Write what you know." So I'll write about bachelorhood. And there are so many topics revolving around that topic, frankly, I'm shocked there isn't already some kind of major resource out there on it already (I mean, besides the MAXIM magazine variety). So feel free to drop me a line, make a request, or just chat. This blog is for everyone, so let's get started.
